Clocking in with M2M

Cinterion, a global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication technology and a Gemalto (Euronext NL 0000400653 GTO) company, has announced it is powering communications for the world’s first M2M time clock, JobClock Hornet by ExakTime.

The new clock uses an advanced Cinterion module to automatically capture and send precise electronic time records over wireless networks, simplifying payroll processing and optimising jobsite management. The mobile time clock is ideal for any business with hourly employees such as construction and landscape companies, restaurants, hospitals and more.

Barber Webb, an industrial products manufacturer in Los Angeles and an early adopter of JobClock Hornet, immediately realised the benefits of Cinterion M2M technology.

“It’s amazing how easy it now is to get time records from the field,” says Gaby Mendez of Barber Webb. “We’ve cut down on paperwork, saved time and reduced fuel costs by eliminating trips to field to collect paper cards. The JobClock Hornet has also increased accuracy in time tracking, which saves money in payroll too. I’ll never go back to paper time cards!”

Housed in a weatherproof composite material case, JobClock Hornet uses the easy-to-integrate Cinterion TC65i Java module for reliable communications in any environment. With optimised power management, the module sends the time clock stamped data every hour for up to 30 days without having to recharge its battery pack. This ensures payroll is processed throughout the week instead of at the last minute, and it allows management to reassign work crews based on accurate, real-time staffing information. The JobClock Hornet’s simple set-up and lightweight, portable form factor make it ideal for mobile worksites as well as fixed locations due to its wireless ease of installation.

“We designed JobClock Hornet to provide reliable communications anywhere, and the rugged, power-efficient Cinterion module holds up to that challenge,” said Tony Pappas, CEO, ExakTime. “The Cinterion M2M optimised Java technology simplified our product design process and helped accelerate time-to-market to meet surging customer demand for this exciting product.”

“With this new device we are revolutionising the way businesses process payroll and manage work crew,“ said Paul Kobos, senior vice president sales NORAM, Cinterion. “JobClock Hornet shows how state-of-the-art Cinterion technology is continuously applied in new ways to solve age-old business challenges.“
