IoT Transport: The sooner we get to Intelligent Mobility the better

Russell Goodenough of Fujitsu

As we become more immersed in today’s digital-first era, the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) offers the ability to revolutionise existing transport services as well as unlock the potential for fundamentally new ones – especially for the vehicles that we drive today.

As Russell Goodenough, client managing director of Transport at Fujitsu says, we have already seen the launch of driverless cars. Soon these automobiles will be just another smart computing device we own, highlighting how transport is quickly becoming more intelligent.

Soon transport will no longer be a series of separate car and train journeys but instead revolve around an intelligent system driven by a more user-centred travel experience.

Whether it’s m-commerce that will transform transport retail or new data communications services that will integrate transport systems into IoT – “Intelligent Mobility” is driving disruption and opportunity across the entire transport sector. And it will continue to do so in the years to come, which is essential in order to deliver passenger centric services.

This digital transformation is providing ways for customers to optimise their journey by using applications and services that can process real-time conditions and provide accurate instantaneous information about various locations of interest. It is also helping with capacity, improving efficiency and creating a more sustainable network.

The sooner we get to Intelligent Mobility, the sooner companies can create the best possible experience for their customers which will result in customer loyalty, return in custom and also an increase in usage.
