Particle offers ‘scalable’ cellular SIM card management for large fleets

Particle, an Internet of Things device platform, has released a new Cellular IoT SIM Management solution for large fleets.

This reportedly enables enterprise clients to effectively scale cellular IoT solutions addressing high-impact business challenges like asset tracking, compliance monitoring, and preventative maintenance.

In professional cellular IoT deployments, enterprise clients must manage both a fleet of devices as well as the SIM cards that allow those devices to connect to the Internet. When a cellular fleet grows to thousands or tens of thousands of units, a need for a set of tools quickly emerges to avoid the headache of managing SIM cards on an individual basis. Particle’s Cellular IoT SIM Management for products creates a centralised control center for any number of SIM cards.

Zach Supalla

According to CEO Zach Supalla, “Companies deploying IoT products at scale need control over the whole fleet of devices and everything that makes them operate, including cellular connectivity,” he said. “This is a huge win for our enterprise clients.”

Some of the most valuable features of cellular IoT SIM management include:

    • Pre-activating SIM cards en-masse to ensure a smooth unboxing experience for installers or end users of Particle devices
    • Gaining meaningful insights into data usage patterns by viewing fleet-wide usage information
    • Centralised control center to monitor and control the connectivity status of any SIM card in the fleet
    • Setting sensible cellular data defaults to save time and effort without sacrificing control of individual SIM cards

As an example, consider a global enterprise that tracks assets via cellular through a large supply chain. Instead of having to activate devices in the field, SIM management allows the enterprise to deliver pre-activated devices to trucks and trains and avoid expensive in-field configuration. It also provides the opportunity to monitor and limit the data use of those devices from the Particle Console.

Particle is a scalable, reliable and secure Internet of Things device platform that enables businesses to quickly and easily build, connect and manage their connected solutions. Particle aims to making the Internet of Things easy and accessible.
