Cisco and Microsoft have announced they are partnering to make it possible for the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite to connect to and interoperate with Cisco Fog deployments.
The announcement was made at IoT World Forum in London. Cisco IoT Operations Platform features three new components – Connection Management at Scale, Fog Computing, and Data Delivery which will be rolled out later this year.
The companies are collaborating “to develop the hybrid IoT solutions that businesses need” to ensure the scalable, economical and secure execution of their IoT services from the edge to cloud and all points in between. “As a result, Azure IoT Suite will be able to connect to Cisco Fog deployments.
“As a result,” says Macario Namie, hIoT Business Group, “Azure IoT Suite will be able to connect to Cisco Fog deployments. For the many businesses already using Microsoft Azure to build and run their IoT applications – and for those looking for a cloud platform to do so – this will enable customers to use the platforms they love, while bringing them added value through an integrated solution.”
According to the partners, this will have the following benefits for their joint customers:
- Enabling them to build and host their IoT applications in Azure, while extending the power of those applications to the edge via Cisco’s Fog computing solutions
- Bring intelligence and processing capabilities closer to where the data is originated so that critical decisions can be processed in real time
- Help them optimise their IoT deployment costs by only sending the necessary information to the cloud, while processing the rest at the edge.
