Smart meters are part of Djibouti's new power access and diversification contract tender

Djibouti, Africa. August 28, 2012 — International competitive bids are being sought for a new power access and energy diversification project in the Republic of Djibouti. The project is financed by The World Bank (Tender Notice No.: wb:op00012657).

Information from the Djibouti government concerning the access and diversification of energy project includes:

1. A component in the project is the development of access to electricity in neighbourhoods that are poorly served or unserved (Balbala duPK12) and the extension of networks with BT (400/220 V), MV (20kV) and Public Lighting (EP ). The project will finance part of the supply and installation of MV and LV power lines, transformers, poles, circuit breakers and other network equipment.

2. Another project component is designed to replace a 20kV line. The new line of 148mm2 cable has a length of about 36km and will be composed of metal Almelec cables and other online equipment. The project will finance part of this supply and the installation of this new 20kV line.

3. The final component of the project is the supply of approximately 3,500 smart meters and their installation in one or more areas in the city of Djibouti to reduce grid losses.

The deadline for submissions on Tender Notice wb:op00012657 is December 20, 2012.
