According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, voice is suited to a range of Internet of Things (IoT) applications and has a role to play across a variety of vertical markets. According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, From Alexa to Industry: Opportunities for a Voice-powered Internet of Things (IoT), eight key reasons spearhead the relevance of Voice in the Internet of Things, including: Speech being a natural mode of communication for humans. Permitting interaction when hands and eyes are occupied.

Opening up biometric security options through the unique properties of a human voice. The application of voice in IoT spans a variety of vertical markets, from consumer to industrial, through to healthcare. With business use cases including improved customer service and more efficient operational processes.

Andrew Brown, executive director and author of the report, noted “The focus of IoT is very much on data, but as technologies such as natural language processing and speech to text continue to improve, the ability to include and integrate voice into IoT applications provides a versatile method to utilise human interaction. In some cases voice presents a vital hands-free experience for users, an extra layer of security and even lower build costs than expensive touchscreen panels”.
