Elecsys wins remote monitoring order from US military

Watchdog VIP

Elecsys has received an order for remote monitoring systems to be delivered to the United States Department of Defense.

This initial order for fifty Watchdog VIP remote monitoring units will be deployed to monitor cathodic protection systems used by the US Navy and the US Marine Corps throughout the world.

Elecsys expects to ship the systems within the next two months. Roughly half the equipment is destined for use on domestic military bases and the other half is slated for deployment overseas.

“We are excited about this initial order for Elecsys remote monitoring equipment for the Department of Defense,” said Karl Gemperli, chief executive officer.

“Our dependable and field-proven Watchdog CP wireless monitoring systems are ideally suited for harsh conditions and remote locations and we believe they will be a reliable long-term solution. The US military represents a significant business opportunity for Elecsys and we anticipate additional orders in the near term.”

The Watchdog VIP is equipped with four configurable analogue inputs, one digital input and an AC power detection probe, which enables it to perform a wide variety of remote monitoring functions for pipeline operators, gas, water and electric utilities, highway departments, and energy exploration and production companies. The system is deployable worldwide communicating via either quad-band GSM/GPRS cellular telemetry or the Inmarsat global satellite system.

The firm’s Watchdog Web Monitor internet portal allows secure, immediate access to measurements and provides web-based remote control of measurement ranges, configurations and alarm notification settings. The Watchdog VIP simplifies installation and system commissioning with integrated field diagnostics and web-enabled configurability, making it easy to deploy, thereby reducing travel to remote sites.

Elecsys develops and manufactures machine to machine (M2M) data acquisition, telemetry, analysis systems and custom electronic assemblies for critical industries. Its proprietary equipment and services encompass rugged remote monitoring, wireless communications, mobile computing and radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies. Its primary markets include energy production and distribution, agriculture, natural resource management, aerospace, safety and security systems, and transportation.
