March 21, 2011: A leading firm of analysts have taken a positive stance on Vodafone’s UK operations. And in their assessment Current Analysis have emphasised Vodafone UK’s provision of M2M (machine-to-machine) services as a key strength.
Vodafone UK is also said to retain “a strong mobility portfolio” ahead of its UK mobile rivals (including Everything Everywhere, O2, Virgin Mobile) in developing and adjusting to selling unified communications (UC) and fixed services. Vodafone’s GBP 5 billion (EUR 5.7 billion) annual revenues and 19.5 million customers makes it the UK’s fourth-largest telecoms operator.
Mobile voice accounts for half of its UK revenues but Vodafone offers advanced M2M services, such as fleet and asset management, metering and remote security (e.g., CCTV), and mobile workforce solutions based on remote access services (RAS) and mobile LAN solutions. Vodafone has also started to focus on vertical solutions, such finance sector and in particular the public sector where Vodafone has just been recognised as a strategic partner of the Office of Government Commerce.
In this new report Current Analysis’s Gary Barton said: “Vodafone offers strong M2M services: as well as vehicle telematics and smart metering, Vodafone can provide vertical solutions such as ‘Vodafone Process Tracker’ which is a managed service that tracks the process of transactions for financial services organisations. Similarly, Vodafone has developed solutions for the healthcare sector such as Vodafone mobile Patient Recorded Outcomes (mPRO), which uses internet and M2M connectivity to support the collection of and access to patient data.”
