Smart transport initiative MaaS Scotland launched

MaaS Scotland is a new organisation and joint venture between ScotlandIS and Technology Scotland that will support companies and organisations engaged in the development of Mobility as a Service (MaaS).

The launch event will address the opportunities created by the Mobility as a Service concept, as well as UK and international case studies, with examples from Spain, Japan and Singapore. Most importantly, attendees will hear about existing and upcoming projects in Scotland and the UK, including how to get involved and the potential impact and rewards to be gained in adopting this new approach.

Dr George Hazel OBE, programme manager of MaaS Scotland, explained: “MaaS marks a shift away from personally owned modes of transport and looks towards bringing all means of travel, transport providers and payment options together into one single service. We are creating a community of MaaS specialists with the experience and skills to enable the development of technology that creates smarter, faster and greener mobility for the people working, living and visiting Scotland.”

Key note speakers at the conference include, Humza Yousaf MSP, the Scottish Government’s Minister for Transport and the Islands, and Sampo Hietanen, CEO of MaaS Global. As one of the founders of Mobility as a Service, Sampo will cover a variety of topics including an overview of MaaS globally and the development of MaaS Global. He will be joined by a number of other pioneering companies and organisations speaking at the event.
