Munich, Germany. 28 April, 2022 – Infineon Technologies AG is committed to enabling security for the Internet of Things (IoT) and applauds the adoption of delegated articles 3.3 (d), (e), and (f) of the European Commission (EC) Radio Equipment Directive (RED, 2014/53/EU), and its goal to provide security, safety, health and privacy outcomes for the consumer and industry. The essential personal data, privacy and fraud-protection requirements in RED are planned to take effect on August 1, 2024 in the European Union (EU). All products falling under this ruling must comply with the defined standards by July 2024, the latest.

“We support the essential requirements in EU RED delegated articles as it introduces security, privacy and fraud-protection in all RF connected devices sold within the EU ‘single-market’ and consequently makes it safer to use these devices for European individuals and enterprises. EU GDPR (2018), the EU Cyber Security Act (2019), and now the EU RED: The continuous emergence of regulations underscores the growing importance of cybersecurity in today’s world.”
As requested by the EC, the European Standardisation Organisations (ESOs) are engaged in standardising the technical and compliance requirements for the devices to support the security and privacy outcomes promoted by RED. Infineon is participating in these European standardisation groups to support its customers to meet the requirements and plan for future success.
