Navetas to demonstrate disaggregation technology

At Metering Europe 2011, Navetas Energy Management will showcase its energy disaggregation technology. The technology can transform smart meters into intelligent energy measurement and management systems in homes or businesses, by accurately tracking energy consumption at an appliance-level, from a single point.

The Metering Billing/CRM Europe exhibition in Amsterdam will run from 4 to 6 October 2011.

Visitors to stand B56 will be able to see the energy disaggregation in action with Navetas’ energy management display system for the home. Using the disaggregation data, the display provides energy consumption data in cost, kWh and CO2 for specific appliances such as the washing machine, dishwasher or vacuum cleaner and also by appliance group, such as home laundry or cooking.

“Currently, smart meters are primarily designed to inform energy providers and the smart grid,” said Chris Saunders, CEO of Navetas. “While they will provide households and businesses with an overview of how much energy they are consuming, they will only empower energy consumers to make long-term behavioural changes if they provide detailed insight into their usage.

“By the end of this year, it’s estimated that around 250 million smart meters will already be installed. On the cusp of global mass-market rollouts, it’s now time for smart meters to get smarter.

“Through energy disaggregation technology, we can develop the next generation smart meter that delivers not only to smart grids and energy providers, but energy consumers.”

The disaggregation technology is currently being trialled in homes with some of the UK’s energy providers.
